Information for Staff & Advisors
Get to Know Our Office
Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange (IAGE) is the campus study abroad office. Our portfolio includes: exchange programs, direct enroll programs, providers programs, customized short-term programs, and signature programs. Our staff is a group of dedicated and knowledgeable education abroad professionals whose own international experience has impacted our careers.
Students who need assistance in the study abroad process, or have questions about IAGE-sponsored programs are encouraged to come to our Advising and Resource Center (112 International Studies Building) during walk-in hours and speak with a Program Assistant. Program Assistants are current students who have studied abroad on one or more study abroad programs at Illinois and are trained to advise on general topics. Students who have spoken to a Program Assistant or attended a First Steps Workshop can then make an appointment with one of our Education Abroad Coordinators, who are full-time staff members with regional portfolios. Direct students to our Calendar for walk-in advising hours and to the Advising page to schedule an appointment. If a student has specific questions about a program sponsored by one of the colleges, you can direct them to that college study abroad office.
Students apply to study abroad programs through an online platform called My Study Abroad. Students may only apply to one IAGE program per term abroad, although we ask them to identify alternate program choices within their application in the event they are not accepted to their first-choice program. To learn more about the process, visit the Outgoing Student Application Process page.
Completing a Recommendation
If a student asks you to complete a recommendation for their study abroad application, they will input your email address into My Study Abroad, and you will receive an email with instructions to fill out an electronic form with questions regarding the student’s readiness to study abroad. Your responses are carefully reviewed and considered for all applications, and even more so for applications to selective programs. Please provide detailed responses that provide specific examples of your previous interactions with the student.
